What’s Going on with Valsartan?

Valsartan, a common heart drug, and Valsartan/Hydrochlorothiazide combination therapies from Solco Healthcare and Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries were recalled recently. The FDA states the recall is due to an impurity, N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), which carries the risk of cancer.

“We have carefully assessed the valsartan-containing medications sold in the United States, and we’ve found that the valsartan sold by these specific companies does not meet our safety standards,” said the director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
